The Office of Pre-Award Research Administration supports investigators in proposing and managing sponsored programs of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Research Institute. We provide assistance in developing, reviewing, and submitting proposals, serve as a resource for sponsor policies and regulations, issue or negotiate incoming and outgoing subawards, and review and negotiate outgoing consulting agreements.

The Office of Pre-Award Research Administration works closely in conjunction with the Research Business Managers (RBMs) in The Office of Post-Award and Research Portfolio Management to support faculty throughout the entire life cycle of an award.

Industry clinical trial agreements, as well as Materials Transfer, Data Use/Share, and Collaborative or Confidentiality agreements are handled by the Office of Collaborative and Corporate Research Contracts (OCCRC).

Sponsored Projects Officers (SPO) – serve on behalf of faculty as CHOP’s negotiators and advocates with funders and any other external sponsored projects entity. They also guide researchers on application submissions, grants management, institutional approvals and sign-offs, as well as other non-financial activities such as just-in-time documentation, progress reports, and grant close-out.

Grant and Contracts Specialists (GCS) – provide pre-award non-financial administrative support for sponsored projects including the negotiation and execution of incoming and outgoing subawards. They ensure subawards to and from the organization under various sponsored projects flow down the sponsor’s terms and conditions, protect CHOP researchers’ intellectual property interests and are compatible with CHOP policies and procedures. In addition, GCS is responsible for outgoing consulting agreements.
