CVI News: CHOP CVI Trainee Receives Second Century Early Faculty Independence Award

The CHOP CVI announced that Andrey Zakharchenko, PhD, one of our trainees on the CHOP Cardiology NHLBI Research Training Grant (T32), was awarded a prestigious Second Century Early Faculty Independence Award from the American Heart Association (AHA). Dr. Zakharchenko will be concluding his T32 fellowship, and he will be appointed an Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Zakharchenko's AHA project, Pyridoxamine modification of bioprosthetic heart valves tissue to mitigate structural degeneration and calcification, will advance his highly successful mechanistic studies of pyridoxamine, a vitamin B6 vitamer. Dr. Zakharchenko has published his research in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Biomaterials.
