CVI News: CHOP Cardiology NHLBI Research Training Program Successfully Renewed
The CHOP Cardiology National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Research Training Program (T32 HL007015) has been successfully renewed. It received an impact score of 17, which puts it in the Exceptional to Outstanding range of the NIH grant rating scale.
This extraordinary program, directed by Robert J. Levy, MD, PI, and Joseph Rossano, MD, Co-PI, will now be funded for years 2026 to 2030. The program underwent a rigorous review process to evaluate criteria such as: the training program’s environment, experience of the directors, expertise and track record of mentors, excellence of the applicant pool, and the productivity and success of the trainees.
Our program scored well in each of these categories. The program has advanced over the years to expand the number of training slots available to the maximum of eight. CHOP Cardiology NHBLI T32 is one of only two NIH supported pediatric cardiology research training programs in the entire United States, which highlights the unique opportunity available for CHOP Cardiology Fellows. Trainees in this program receive significant mentoring and associated support in developing skills to provide the basis for both research independence and leadership in pediatric cardiology.
