CVI News: Brian White, MD, PhD, Receives Margaret Q, Landenberger Research Foundation Award
The Margaret Q. Landenberger Research Foundation awarded Brian R. White, MD, PhD, assistant professor of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania, $200,000 for his project, Functional Neuroimaging Biomarkers of Neurologic Injury and Recovery in a Mouse Model of Phenylketonuria With Corrective Gene Editing.
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is an inborn error of metabolism that can result in neurodevelopmental injury even with dietary therapy. This grant will support a collaborative project combining Dr. White's optical neuroimaging techniques with a novel animal model of PKU developed by fellow CVI members Kiran Musunuru, MD, PhD and Rebecca Ahrens-Nicklas, MD, PhD. The overall goal is to develop imaging biomarkers to improve diagnosis and prognosis in this vulnerable population.
