Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh
Dr. Vajravelu is a pediatric endocrinologist and health services researcher whose research focuses on pediatric obesity, type 2 diabetes, and health equity in diabetes, as well as the use of mobile health (mHealth) to improve patient care and health outcomes. With the support of an NIH NIDDK K23 Mentored Career Development Award, she is evaluating the impact of an mHealth-based physical activity intervention for adolescents and young adults with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.
Objectives:
- Share the study design and preliminary results of an mHealth-based intervention to increase physical activity in adolescents and young adults (AYA) with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.
- Discuss feasibility of text message-based recalls to collect dietary intake data from youth.
- Review possible approaches to integrate wearable devices to improve outcomes for AYA with type 2 diabetes.
