Register for the Microbial Genomics Journey Workshop
The Microbial Genomics Journey Workshop returns this September, following the tremendous success of our first cohort.
Instructor: Ahmed M Moustafa, BPharm, PhD
Teaching Assistants: Daniel P. Morreale (Dan), Qianxuan She (Sean) and Erin Marie Theiller (Erin).
Workshop Schedule: Fridays 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (9/22/2023-12/15/2023). Thanksgiving week (11/24/2023) will be a break.
Workshop Address: 8-146AB Smilow (In-person only).
This 12-week workshop is designed to immerse researchers in the field of microbial genomics by providing hands-on experience with a specific focus on bioinformatic approaches for single isolates. The curriculum will encompass a wide array of topics, including unix command lines, installing tools, quality control, assembly, annotation, typing, GWAS, reference-based analysis, pangenome-based analysis, panallelome analysis, phylogenetics, and recombination detection.
While the primary focus will be on bacterial genomics, we will also incorporate examples from SARS-CoV-2. Based on feedback from the previous cohort, we have adjusted the format to allow more time for in-class practice. Students will watch the lecture recordings before attending the practice sessions. All the material for the workshop, including the lecture recordings, is available on YouTube and GitHub.
Registration
Registration is free and required. It will be open until Friday, Sept. 15. Please complete the form to register for the workshop.
