The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is a key component of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute’s Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP) and works closely with the Institutional Official (IO), Department of Veterinary Resources (DVR), Office of Research Safety (ORS), and the Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs (ATOP) to develop and oversee the animal program, procedures, and facilities.

The IACUC is responsible for institutional compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations, and Research Institute’s policies governing the humane care and use of laboratory animals for research or teaching as described in the National Research Council's "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals" (Guide), the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (PHS Policy), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal Welfare Act and Animal Welfare Regulations, and IACUC policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assurance of education and training in the care and use of animals in research and the regulatory oversight of all animal research at CHOP.
