The Office of Research Safety offers the following course on Lab Safety:

Introduction to Laboratory Safety

This is an introductory course in laboratory safety that must be completed by all lab based staff. This course introduces staff to safe work practices for handling common biological and chemical hazards encountered in the laboratory.

Target Audience: All lab-based staff
Required Frequency/Format: Once, In-person training
Approximate Training Time: 2 hours
Training Offered: Monthly

This is an introductory course in laboratory safety that must be completed by all lab based staff. This course introduces staff to safe work practices for handling common biological and chemical hazards encountered in the laboratory. Information on prevention of exposure to chemicals and biohazards, including human blood and body fluids is reviewed, as well as procedures to follow in the event of a spill, exposure or other emergency. Guidelines for disposal of infectious and chemical waste are also reviewed.

Attendance at this course fulfills training requirements established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogen Standard (29CFR 1910.1030) and Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories (29 CFR 1910. 1450).
