Results for Type 1 Diabetes

1 - 10 of 111

David R. Weber, MD, MSCE
David R. Weber

Dr. Weber is a clinical researcher focused on improving bone health in children. He is currently focused on investigating the effects of effects of type 1 diabetes and Duchenne muscular dystrophy on the skeleton.

Steven M. Willi, MD
Steven M. Willi, MD

Dr. Willi's research focuses on therapeutics for type 1 and type 2 diabetes and he has performed a number of physiologic studies in the etiology and characterization of diabetes in children. His current studies include trials on the delay of progression of type 1 diabetes and a multicenter trial to examine the optimal therapeutics for type 2 diabetes in children.

Struan F.A. Grant, PhD

Dr. Grant uses high-throughput genotyping and sequencing technologies, combined with statistical and bioinformatic approaches, to unravel genomic puzzles related to multiple common complex traits.

Lorraine L. Katz, MD
Lorraine L. Katz

Dr. Katz’s investigates the sequelae of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus in youth. Her research involves the intersection of sleep, obesity, and glucose intolerance and prevention of cardiovascular risk. Her studies have led to the evaluation of quantitative tools important for assessment of metabolic risk in youth.

Rebecca A. Simmons, MD
Rebecca A. Simmons

The principal goal of Dr. Simmons' research program is to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms that link an aberrant intrauterine milieu to the later development of diseases in adulthood. She has made many seminal contributions to the understanding of the role that epigenetic modifications play in developmental programming of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Amanda M. Ackermann, MD, PhD
Amanda M. Ackermann

Dr. Ackermann studies diabetes (types 1 and 2) and congenital hyperinsulinism using mouse models, cell lines, and primary human tissue. She aims to identify novel pathways regulating beta cell insulin secretion, leading to innovative therapeutic strategies for these disorders. Current studies include in vivo mouse physiology, ex vivo human islet physiology, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, epigenetic modification, and single-cell functional genomics.

Michael Silverman, MD, PhD
Michael Silverman

Dr. Silverman studies the fundamental aspects of early-life commensal microbes that influence immune system development and function. He discovered that the MHC-II E molecule prevents type 1 diabetes by shaping the intestinal microbiota early in life.

Dimitrios S. Monos, PhD
Dimitrios S. Monos

Dr. Monos is an internationally recognized expert on histocompatibility (HLA) molecules. His work covers a wide spectrum of HLA-related issues that pertain to both the molecular (structure/function) aspects of HLAs, as well as the genetics of the major histocompatibility complex, that includes the genes encoding the HLA molecules.

E-mail:
monosd [at] chop.edu
Christopher J. Cardinale, MD, PhD
Christopher J. Cardinale

Dr. Cardinale's research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of gene expression and gene regulation in autoimmune diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes, and systemic sclerosis. He uses data from large-scale genomic studies to identify disease-causing genetic variants and functionally explore the target genes of those variants.

Rachana Shah, MD, MSTR
Rachana Shah

Dr. Shah's research is centered on understanding obesity and its related complications. Her current work includes clinical and translational studies exploring pathophysiology and modulation of obesity-related adipose tissue and systemic inflammation using human cell lines and clinical trials. She is also involved in clinical studies of outcomes and risk factors of polycystic ovarian syndrome and type 2 diabetes in teens.
