Danielle S. Burstein, MD
Danielle S. Burstein
Dr. Burstein's research primarily involves the epidemiology and outcomes of cardiovascular disease in children with heart failure and heart transplantation. She is most interested in better understanding the role of safe exercise in children with heart failure and congenital heart disease.

Daniel P. Kelly, MD
Daniel P. Kelly

Dr. Kelly’s research career began with deciphering the genetic basis of inborn errors in metabolism in children, followed by a series of breakthrough discoveries relevant to the diagnosis and treatment of common forms of heart failure in the general population.

Justin Berger, MD, PhD
Justin H. Berger

Dr. Berger's research focus involves the development of pediatric heart failure and underlying metabolic drivers. He studies how improving metabolic dysregulation may also benefit cardiac dysfunction.

E-mail:
bergerj [at] chop.edu
Joseph W. Rossano, MD
Joseph W. Rossano

Dr. Rossano's extensive research experience primarily involves the epidemiology and outcomes of cardiovascular disease in children, and multi-institutional collaborative observational and interventional studies. His particular research interests include evaluating the treatment and outcomes of pediatric cardiomyopathy, heart failure, and transplantation.

E-mail:
rossanoj [at] chop.edu
Jonathan J. Edwards, MD
Jonathan J. Edwards

Dr. Edwards' focus is on unraveling mechanisms of right ventricular heart failure. To this end, he employs multi-omics approaches to human-derived biospecimens for target discovery and in vitro cardiomyocyte and in vivo mouse models for mechanistic validation and investigation.

Matthew J. O'Connor, MD
Matthew J. O'Connor, MD

Dr. O'Connor investigates the immunological aspects of heart transplantation in children, specifically the impact of anti-HLA antibodies. The presence of these antibodies can complicate or even prevent a transplant from happening; therefore, reducing or eliminating them before transplant is important for a patient to receive a heart that is compatible with his or her immune system.

Liming Pei, PhD
Liming Pei

Dr. Pei's research aims to understand the molecular underpinnings of cardiac remodeling associated with cardiomyopathy and heart failure. He is particularly interested in two areas of cardiac remodeling: metabolic reprogramming, and secretion of heart-derived hormones to communicate with other organs.

Betsy Goldmuntz, MD
Elizabeth Goldmuntz

Dr. Goldmuntz's research focuses on the genetic basis and modifiers of congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and heart failure. Her goal is to identify genetic alterations conferring a risk for congenital heart disease and to correlate these findings with clinical outcomes. To this end, she is also performing clinical translational studies.

Robert J. Levy, MD
Robert J. Levy Headshot

Dr. Levy is the director of Cardiology Research, and also serves as program director of the Cardiology National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Research Training Grant. His research interests are the pathophysiology of biomaterials used in medicine, basic mechanisms and novel therapies for heart valve disease, arterial angioplasty, local drug delivery, and nanomedicine. He also has experience over three decades in medical device development.

Wei Tong, PhD
Wei Tong

Dr. Tong investigates cytokine receptor signaling in normal and neoplastic hematopoietic development. She uses integrated approaches encompassing biochemistry, molecular biology, mouse models, and primary human samples to understand signaling events emanating from cytokine receptors that regulate the development of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells.
