Riccardo L. Gottardi

Dr. Gottardi leads the Bioengineering and Biomaterials (Bio2) lab, collaborating on clinical and research efforts to offer engineering solutions for pediatric health, primarily treatments for airway disorders. Dr. Gottardi researches mechanisms of laryngotracheal pathologies, applies tissue engineering to improve pediatric conditions, develops new devices, and formulates controlled drug delivery systems to treat and improve patients’ lives.

Lawrence Wells, MD

Dr. Wells is an attending physician and associate director of the Sports Medicine and Performance Center at CHOP. His research focuses on articular cartilage injury and repair mechanisms, avascular necrosis, stress fractures in adolescents, and post-operative pain management in ambulatory surgery patients.

Ian N. Jacobs, MD
Ian N. Jacobs

Dr. Jacobs’s current research focuses on several areas, including the biochemical, microbiological, and genetic cause of scarring or stenosis of the laryngotracheal airway, and the development of tissue-engineered cartilage and other novel biomaterials for laryngotracheal reconstruction. Dr. Jacobs is also investigating the mitigation of button battery injuries in infants and children.

Véronique Lefebvre, PhD
Véronique Lefebvre

Dr. Lefebvre investigates the genetic mechanisms that generate the diversity of cell types composing the body. Her emphasis is on deciphering how proteins called SOX transcription factors specify stem cells and highly specialized cells in the skeleton, how changes in these factors cause skeletal diseases, and how these factors also control other processes, including brain development and intellectual disability diseases.

Eiki Koyama, DDS, PhD
Eiki Koyama, DDS, PhD

Dr. Koyama's research focuses on Hereditary Multiple Exostoses (HME), a genetic disorder that causes the development of multiple benign tumors on the surface of the metaphyses of long bones. Based on his extensive knowledge of the normal processes of skeletal development and growth, Dr. Koyama's research aims to clarify the molecular mechanisms of HME formation and growth.

Thomas Seacrist

Thomas Seacrist's research is focused on how the anatomical and developmental differences between children and adults affect their motion during motor vehicle crashes, improving child crash test dummies, and detecting driving behavior differences between novice teen and experienced adult drivers.
