Tori Nicole Sutherland
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care

Dr. Sutherland's work includes trials and large database analysis to improve patient safety in areas including maternal mortality reduction, and oxygen therapy for hypoxemia and antimicrobial resistance. Currently, her research focuses on opioid-sparing pain management for children and risk factors for adverse outcomes after surgery among adolescents.

Bio

Tori Sutherland, MD, MPH, is a core faculty member at the Clinical Futures, a CHOP Research Institute Center of Emphasis, an attending anesthesiologist at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and an assistant professor of Pediatric Anesthesiology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Sutherland received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She completed her internship in general surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, residency in anesthesiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center also in Boston, and fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore.

Dr. Sutherland's previous research experience includes maternal mortality reduction trials in Egypt, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe; as well as a clinical trial to characterize antimicrobial resistance in Rwanda. Currently, her research focuses on opioid-sparing pain management for children and risk factors for adverse outcomes after surgery among adolescents.
