Bio

Alaa Narch grew up in Lebanon and first came to the U.S. to attend Wesleyan University as an undergraduate. At Wesleyan, Narch joined Dr. Scott Holmes’ epigenetics lab, which uses budding yeast to study histones and gene expression. Narch’s research involved identifying protein binding partners of the linker histone (HHO1p) and elucidating its role and relationship to other proteins in silencing at the HMR locus.

Narch’s time in the Wolpaw Lab will be instrumental in preparing him for a future in medicine and/or research. Having moved from strictly basic research, Narch is excited about the translational aspect of research in the Wolpaw Lab. He works on optimizing the expression of cGAS and pursuing different methods of activating the cGAS-STING pathway in mesenchymal human neuroblastoma cell lines.

Since joining the Wolpaw Lab in September 2022, Narch has enjoyed the collaborative spirit both in the lab and at CHOP where he has made many new connections and friends. In his free time, he enjoys video games, reading, and exploring the drag venues of Philadelphia.
