Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs
The Office of Academic Training and Outreach Programs (ATOP) supports the next generation of pediatric researchers with engaging education and training experiences that promote innovation and scientific breakthroughs across the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia research community. ATOP consists of three tiers of service: Academic Training, Outreach Programs, and Research Workforce Development and Specialized Programs.
Academic Training provides development opportunities, supports researchers-in-training across the spectrum of the scientific career ladder, and serves as the office of postdoctoral affairs. Outreach Programs creates internships, events, and career exposure opportunities for students and community partners to develop future generations of leaders in child health. Research Workforce Development and Specialized Programs builds and supports a vibrant research workforce and implements discipline-specific research programs in scientific areas outlined in the CHOP Research Institute Strategic Plan.

ATOP Tiers
The Academic Training tier provides professional and career development for researchers-in-training, and also serves as the office of postdoctoral affairs.
The Outreach Programs tier creates a connected network of STEM-M pathway programs designed to build skills, offer meaningful experiences, and introduce opportunities aligned with career interests.
The Research Workforce Development and Specialized Programs tier serves a critical role in building a community of highly specialized and exceptionally trained early-stage scientists from a variety of backgrounds, creating an unrivaled environment to advance scientific discovery and improve child health.
