The Immunology and Infectious Disease Research Initiative supports and strengthens the community of investigators working in immunology, infectious disease, and related areas of research, establishing a unified voice for this avenue of research at CHOP. The opportunity for faculty to work collectively and create new lines of innovative research will enable us to achieve next-level goals such as therapeutic development and donor support under the auspices of a comprehensive center.

The research initiative will become the global leader in pediatric infectious disease and immunology research, from bench to bedside, in alignment with CHOP Research Institute strategic initiatives. To harness the depth and breadth of microbiology, vaccinology, and immunology research across CHOP, our team will:

  • Accelerate translational discoveries in infectious diseases, immunology, vaccinology, and microbiome research at CHOP
  • Develop supportive infrastructure, core facilities, and pilot funding
  • Assemble disparate research communities under a single entity to facilitate intramural interaction and collaboration
  • Facilitate valuable partnerships with colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania and other external collaborators.

The Immunology and Infectious Disease Research Initiative will be situated in the Morgan Center for Research and Innovation, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2025.
