About Dr. Fedele

Dr. David Fedele is a principal research scientist at the Center for Healthcare Delivery Science at Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville, FL. He is a licensed psychologist and board-certified in clinical child and adolescent psychology. Dr. Fedele’s research program is dedicated to enhancing the health outcomes of youth diagnosed with chronic illnesses and their families. His work aims to develop innovative methods to optimize health behavior change and reduce barriers to effective disease management. Currently, Dr. Fedele focuses on developing, piloting, and implementing technology-based interventions to improve self-management and access to care for youth with asthma and cystic fibrosis. Since 2014, his research has received extramural funding from federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health and national organizations such as the American Lung Association and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Presentation Objectives

  • Delineate strengths and weaknesses of the mobile health environment in pediatric asthma.
  • Provide an example of how mobile health can collect ambulatory data and use it to deliver a tailored self-management intervention.
  • Discuss how sensors and mobile phones can be used to provide just-in-time support for self-management.
