The Raymond G. Perelman Center for Cellular and Molecular Therapeutics presents a lecture series:

Protein Arginine Methylation in RNA Metabolism

Speaker

Yanzhong Yang, MD, PhD
Associate Professor of Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics
Beckman Research Institute
City of Hope National Cancer Center

Description of Research

My lab has a long-standing interest in understanding the biological function of protein arginine methylation and its relevance to human diseases. Our research program focuses on investigating the role of arginine methylation in the regulation of epigenetics, RNA modification, and RNA splicing. In particular, our published work includes the identification of Tudor domain-containing protein 3 (TDRD3) as the first “reader” of methylarginine histone code and the characterization of arginine methylation as a novel PTM to regulate RNA m6A modification. Recently, we characterized the last member of the protein arginine methyltransferase (PRMT) family, PRMT9, whose mutation has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders. Our unpublished work suggests that PRMT9 has a unique and dedicated function in splicing regulation.
