About Research in Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

One out of every five school-age children has or will have a mental or behavioral health condition in any given year. The ultimate goal of research initiatives conducted by the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, whether focused on genes, brain circuitry, psychosocial influences on behavior, or combinations of these, is to improve both the immediate health and the developmental trajectory of children in our care.

In 2020-2021, DCAPBS faculty were awarded nearly $9 million dollars in external funding and authored more 160 peer-reviewed manuscripts.

The department recently completed a strategic planning process that included a research and innovation workgroup. This workgroup, chaired by the director for Research and director of Psychosocial Research, identified a number of strategies to build outstanding research programs and ensure that DCAPBS is a worldwide leader in child mental health research.
