The Pediatric Centers of Excellence in Nephrology (PCEN) invite you to their annual Scientific Symposium. This meeting is an opportunity to hear about resources you can access from the PCENs, updates on PCEN science, collaborative opportunities with PCEN researchers, mentorship, funding opportunities, and a hands-on workshop on cutting-edge technologies to advance your research.

When: March 6, 2025, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. EST
Where: National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), 6701 Rockledge Dr., Bethesda, MD, and Virtually via Zoom

Some activities will be in a hybrid format.

Highlights of the 2025 PCEN Scientific Symposium include:

  • Keynote Speakers: Rulan Parekh and Dr. Samir El-Dahr will join us in person for presentations and Q&A (Keynotes will be available for virtual attendees)
  • Pre-Symposium Trainee Session with NIDDK: Trainees and early-career investigators are welcome to join our program counterparts at NIDDK at 8 a.m. to discuss funding frameworks for this career stage.
  • Lunchtime Spatial Transcriptomics Workshop: Join Drs. Sanjay Jain, Katalin Susztak, Michael Eadon, Jason Smith, and Silvia Medrano to get some hands-on experience during an optional lunchtime workshop, Introduction and Analysis of Spatial Transcriptomics.
  • Working Groups: In-person attendees will have the opportunity to split into groups to share perspectives, contribute ideas to identifying and solving gaps in pediatric kidney disease research, and discuss opportunities in research for early career investigators.

New This Year: Poster Session

A new element for this year's symposium is the poster session available for in-person attendees. Our open call for posters has no eligibility requirements except to submit your interest.

Posters and requests for travel support must be received Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. EST.

Complete the REDCap survey with the following information to submit your poster:

  • Name, email, institution, etc.
  • Project Abstract (i.e., title, co-authors, background, objectives, design/methods, results, and conclusions)
  • Description of your research interests
  • Your interest in travel support.

 ** A hotel block is available for in-person attendees at Embassy Suites by Hilton Bethesda, 6711 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda, MD 20817. The hotel will provide a shuttle to and from the symposium location.

Reservations for the PCEN Scientific Symposium block must be made by Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025.
