As of January 25, 2023, all National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant applications and renewals that generate scientific data must include a detailed plan for managing and sharing data, outlining how scientific data from the research will be managed and shared.

The Data Management and Sharing Plan (DSMP) should be no longer than two pages, and investigators may budget costs associated with data management and sharing.

As this is a new requirement, please work proactively to ensure you understand the new policy and what you will need to submit your proposal. The Arcus Research Data Management Team can help explain how this policy will affect you and what you will need to do to comply. They can also help you prepare your plan and provide templates. The University of Pennsylvania (Penn) has resources available.

Additional details can also be found on the Pre-Award Research Administration website.

We encourage you to plan ahead in order to alleviate stress on yourself, the ARCUS team, and your SPO and RBA. If you have questions about the administrative aspects of this requirement, please contact your SPO. If you have questions about budgeting for your DSMP, please contact your RBA. Find your SPO and RBA.
