With the goal of positioning CHOP as a national leader in health equity research, the Health Equity Research Methods (HERMes) Initiative seeks to advance the feasibility and rigor of conducting research with a health equity orientation by quantifying, amplifying, and building upon the existing work of multiple CHOP centers and investigators.

As of July 1, the HERMes Initiative brings together researchers interested in advancing health equity and mitigating disparities to further organize and bolster supports for integrating health equity best practices into the research process. The HERMes Initiative supports examination and implementation of concepts such as inclusive and representative study samples, equity-oriented epidemiology and biostatistics, and community research partnerships. The initiative is led by Tanisha Belton, DrPH, MPH; Tyra Bryant-Stephens, MD; Chen Kenyon, MD, MSHP; Aditi Vasan, MD, MSHP; and Jordan Wood, MPH.

HERMes will provide a collaborative foundation for equity-oriented academic and translational research, along with inclusive participation in research that protects against harm, heightens rigor, and improves the reach of innovations.

If you and your team are interested in learning more about how you can incorporate health equity principles into your research at CHOP, please contact the HERMes team to schedule a consultation.
